Fighting Coronavirus Together: KIU Teaching Hospital Intensifies Sensitization Drive

KIU, Western Campus – Kampala International University Teaching School has intensified its sensitization campaign among the Ishaka population in a bid to tackle the misinformation on COVID-19.

The hospital's administration has been doing radio talk shows on Crane Radio in Ishaka Town to educate the local population on how they should behave and act in case the disease reaches Bushenyi district.

Sr Elizabeth Kamahoro, the Principal Nursing Officer (PNO) for KIU Teaching Hospital said they have held three talk shows in the past week, mainly to tackle misinformation, as rumours had started doing rounds that the hospital had registered a COVID-19 case.

“These rumours have been going around and some people were scared of bringing their patients with other conditions for fear that they will contract Coronavirus,” Sr Kamahoro said.

“We had to tell the public that we have not yet received any case (of COVID-19) so far, and also to advise them to use official communication channels like calling our numbers in case they want any information,” Sr Kamahoro added.

The team that has been doing the radio talk shows includes Dr Moses Ruhakana, Sr Caroline Kyamazima and Sr Hajarah Akatuhumuza.

The team urged the people to follow the Ministry of Health guidelines and Standard operating procedures on COVID-19.

They also gave them the contact numbers for the hospital;
